China publishes 683 national standards for food safety

On 21 June 2016, National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHFPC) has held 2016 theme activities on food safety promotion. Up to now, NHFPC has published 683 national standards on food safety, and there are more than 400 standards to be consolidated, covering more than 12,000 indexes, which forms the preliminary framework for national standards on food safety that applicable to our national conditions. Passed the review of National Standard Evaluation Commission on Food Safety, the newly consolidated standards will be published in 2016 successively to effectively solve some issues between food standards.
 
NHFPC have taken the lead in consolidating the existing food standards with other competent departments during three years in order to intensify food safety supervision and guarantee health of the people. Except to standards concerning pesticide and veterinary drug residues, 415 standards on food standards are identified to be consolidated.
 
It is known that NHFPC intends to formulate the 13th “five-year” development plan on food state standards by virtue of implementing food safety strategy.
