Shanghai Authority (in China) destroyed 234 batches of imported garments (more than 123,000 pieces, weight: 3,853 kg) on 10 March 2016. Even world-know brands BOSS, VERSACE JEANS and HERMES are among them. The authority entrusted environmental protection enterprises to destroy such violations collectively.

It is disclosed that those garments were intercepted by the authority from June 2015 till now. Shanghai Authority had intercepted 598 batches of imported garments worth as high as USD 4.3256 million as they failed in safety and hygiene items. A typical case shows the authority detected that nine batches HERMES garments contained dangerous levels of formaldehyde not complying with the limit stipulated in national standards during January to March in 2015. Those garments were produced in France.

The rapid development of imported light textiles gives a rise to more stringent quality surveillance on the market. In addition, Inspection and Quarantine Authorities at all levels will strengthen their control on products of high concern such as babies’ wear and imitation jewllery. C&K Testing advises importers and exporters should ensure their products comply with relevant standards.
