Shandong Port (Shandong Province, China) has intercepted a batch of children’s wear with dangerous levels of cleavable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes in recent days. The goods are returned according to laws.

The information revealed those children’s wear (brand “Uni Friend”) were imported from Indonesia (164 pieces, 82 suits, value: USD 235.17). The test result shows the products contain cleavable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes (2,4-Diaminotoluene) (measured values are 27mg/kg and 64mg/kg), not complying with requirement of GB 18401-2010 National General Safety Technical Code for Textile Products (limit: 20mg/kg). Enforcing officials returned those products according to laws.

Azo dyes is one of the most frequently used in synthetic dyes, widely used in dyeing and printing of several natural and synthetic fibres. It can be reduced as cleavable forbidden aromatic amine, which can be easily absorbed by suboriferous to give rise to skin allergies and also release carcinogens if it accumulates to a dangerous level.

C&K Testing advises importers should learn about regulations, laws and technical requirements in China and communicate instructions to safe dyes with overseas customers. It can be quite efficient to ensure safety, hygiene, health, environmental protection and other items conform to the mandatory requirements of technical codes in China to avoid losses.
