Toy safety directive proposes to ban six substances

On 8 June 2015, the EU committee responsible for the toy safety Directive has agreed to ban four preservatives in toys and other toys that may be placed in the mouth for children under three. In the meantime, it drafts Appendix C to Annex II of toy safety directive 2009/48/EC.
 
The proposed amendments in Appendix C to Annex II of toy safety directive 2009/48/EC:

benzisothiazolinone (BIT) 2634-33-5 5 mg/kg (concentration limit) 18 months
after publication of the amendment in the Official Journal
phenol 108-95-2 In polymers: 5 mg/l (concentration limit)
As preservatives: 10 mg/kg (concentration limit)
formamide 75-12-7 When foam toys containing more than 200mg of formamide, a test for emission is required, and it shall be subject to an emission limit of 20μg/m3 in ambient air within 28 days since the testing date
