Rockland County is the fourth New York state locality that passes legislation to ban sale of children’s products containing certain chemicals after Albany County, Westchester County and Suffolk County.

The first local “Toxic Free Toys Act” of New York was passed in Albany County on 8 January 2015.

Effective on 11 May 2015, a new legislation in Westchester County banned sale of toys and children’s wear containing formaldehyde, benzene, lead, mercury, antimony, arsenic, cobalt and cadmium.

On 28 April 2015, Resolution NO.490-2015 was passed to restrict mercury, antimony, arsenic, cobalt, lead and cadmium in children’s products. It will take into force on 1 January 2016.

The ban is anticipated to submit to the Secretary of State in this week at earliest, which will be effective in 90 days.
