Department of Environmental Protection in Maine designated formaldehyde as priority chemical under the Toxic Chemicals in Children’s Products Law (Chapter 885) on 26 July 2015. The rule will be effective immediately.

The chapter applies to certain children’s products containing intentionally-added formaldehyde in Maine. However, second-hand products, packaging of food & beverage and vehicles are exclusive from the chapter.

The final rule adopts the draft and highlights that certain children’s products intended for children under the age of 12 shall be reported before 18 December 2015.

Up to now, there are now seven priority hazardous chemicals that require reporting for children’s products manufactured and sold in Maine.
