Washington state's House of Representatives passed HB 2545 to ban five flame retardants

Washington state's House of Representatives passed the Toxic-Free Kids and Families Act (HB 2545) on 15 February 2016, banning five flame retardants in children’s products and residential upholstered furniture sold in the state.
 
According to HB 2545, beginning 1 July 2017, no manufacturer, wholesaler, or retailer may manufacture, knowingly sell, offer for sale, distribute for sale, or distribute for use in this state children's products or residential upholstered furniture containing any of the following flame retardants in amounts greater than 1,000 parts per million in any product component: TDCPP, TCEP, decaBDE, HBCD and TBBPA.
 
By rule, the secretary of the5department of health may prohibit the manufacture, sale, distribution6for sale, or distribution for use in this state of residential7upholstered furniture or children's products containing any of the8following chemicals used as a flame retardant in any product9component in amounts greater than 1,000 parts per million: IPTPP, TBB, TBPH, TCPP, TPP and V6.
