GB31604.1-2015 for migration in food contact materials and products to be applicable in next September

National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China issued No.8 Notification of Year 2015 announcing lists for 129 national standards and amendments on food safety in China on 22 September 2015. According to the notification, it is the first time that GB31604.1-2015 is published and it will be applicable on 22 September 2016.

This standard sets forth general requirements for experiment for migration in food contact materials and products, clarifies basic requirements for total and specific migration on the test for food stimulants, selection of food stimulants, test periods and temperature ranges, by mean of mirroring test experience and regulations from the developed countries. It overturns the current requirements for food packaging materials while providing for that migration test should be subject to expected type of contact and contact conditions for materials and products as well as specifying conditions for food stimulants and migration test. The test can therefore reflect the actual status and safety for materials and products in use in a more scientific and reasonable way.
 
The standard applies to all food contact materials and products. As it is mandatory, C&K Testing reminds companies to adapt to the new standard to avoid trade barriers.
