Japan has added two substances to its list of priority assessment chemicals (Pacs),
according to the country’s 22 March Gazette. This brings the total number of
substances on the list to 140.
Under the country’s Chemical Substances Control Law, manufacturers and importers
of Pacs must notify the government each year, of those Pacs which they produced
or imported the previous calendar year. Manufacturers and importers of Pacs must
tell their customers if their substances are Pacs, or if their products contain Pacs.
The two added substances are:
·Sodium alkylbenzene sulphonate (alkyl: carbon number of straight-chain
alkane limit to 10-14)
·4 - bromo-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrrole-3-carbonitrile.
The 22 March Gazette also announced the updated list of no-notification chemical
substances. Manufacturers or importers of these substances do not need to
report amounts manufactured or imported in 2013 to the government in 2014.
The total number on the list is 1,843, 182more than last year.
In addition, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has released, on 25 March,
the data of substances manufactured and imported in 2012, which include general
substances, Pacs, and monitoring substances.
