In 2025, the global Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) experienced explosive growth! On December 23, the International EPD System (IES) released statistics showing that the number of effective registrations exceeded 18,000, with 9,395 new additions throughout the year. More and more companies are using EPDs to demonstrate their products' environmental credentials. Among participants, EPD Australasia contributed nearly 30% of the EPDs, indicating a high level of adoption in the region. North America and Europe followed closely, maintaining high usage rates. Additionally, EPD India and EPD Southeast Asia submitted 1.7% and 1.3% of the declarations, respectively, reflecting the increasing participation of emerging economies.

In terms of industry distribution, building products still dominate, with 86.38% of all EPDs released by IES in 2025 related to building products, driven mainly by regulatory requirements and green building certification programs. At the same time, the number of EPDs in the chemical, food and beverage, and paper and plastic industries is also rapidly growing, achieving significant diversification.

Additionally, the digital EPD format launched in January has been adopted in 252 cases. Although the proportion is not high, it indicates a shift from traditional documents to digital transformation, significantly enhancing future data traceability efficiency. Overall, 2025 has been a year of strong growth and integration for EPDs, which are becoming one of the mainstream tools for environmental transparency. When exporting, companies should review the EPD certification rules for each region and select the appropriate Product Category Rules (PCR) for their products.
