Polypropylene and Poly Vinyl Chloride to be Added to India BIS Certification List

Recently, India has made a significant decision that it will enforce stringent quality control order on Polypropylene (PP) materials for moulding and extrusion as well as Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) homopolymers. In accordance with the latest quality control order, PP and PVC should be included in the BIS mandatory certification list, to ensure that domestically produced and imported PP and PVC products meet stringent requirements and to offer consumers safer and more reliable products.

Enterprises shall ascertain whether the chemicals they manufacture or sell require BIS certification and process the certification according to the certification requirements if necessary.

In accordance with the latest quality control order, goods or articles specified in column (1) of the table shall conform to the corresponding India standard given in column (2) and shall bear the mark with the title of the India standard in column (3). It should be noted that this order does not apply to goods or articles meant for export.

This order shall come into force on the expiry of one hundred and eighty days from the date of its publication in the official gazette. Bureau of India Standards (BIS) shall be the certifying and enforcing authority, bearing responsibility for quality certification and supervision of chemical products such as PP and PVC.

This measure signifies a further strengthening of the Indian government's efforts in product quality, aiming to establish a more reliable market environment, protect the legitimate rights of consumers, and promote the sustainable development of the Indian economy. Both consumers and enterprises will benefit from this measure, with a higher level of product quality and safety assurance.
